HS Free Swinging Sifter

The Great Western HS Sifter is the most proven and dependable free-swinging sifter in the industry. It is designed for applications with large screen area requirements and multiple separations.

The high-capacity sifter is manufactured in 2, 4, 6, or 8 sections, which allows for thirty or more sieves per section. Each machine is custom engineered to suit the product characteristics, load demands, and customer requirements. Dependable operation is assured due to the HS Sifter’s proven smooth starting and stopping drive which features high-capacity bearings and a box-mounted drive motor.

Features

Sieve housings are constructed of kiln-dried maple and birch plywood with painted exterior finish (as shown) or finished with moisture resistant lacquer. Dust-tight doors and crevice free joints assure sanitary operation. Interiors are bonded with either white plastic laminate as standard to meet sanitary requirements, or stainless steel for increased demand.

Press Tops

Press tops maintain a securely compressed sieve stack. The HS Sifter is available with either the manual rack-and-pinion sieve compression system, or Great Western’s innovative pneumatic sieve compression system.

HS Drive

The Great Western HS drive mechanism provides uncomplicated adjustment of weights. This allows for the wide range of speed-throw combinations required for optimum operation to meet your product separations.

As the sifter starts, the radial centrifugal force is used to lift the two weight compartments up and together through accurately machined cams while compressing a spring. This controlled energy assures a smooth gyratory motion.

The drive, motor, and counterweight assembly solidly connect to the two boxes. This lightweight, well proven design combines the three elements into one structure capable of withstanding the dynamic stresses required for years of continuous operation.

Bottom Distributors and Outlets

The bottom distributor routes the separated product streams to the outlets. The design can provide up to eight separate uninterrupted discharges.

Great Western offers the widest variety of sieve sizes and types to best suit your production and maintenance needs. Sieves for the HS sifter are constructed with select poplar lumber or food grade plastic, sieves are available with numerous options: to meet your application requirements.
The Great Western HS drive mechanism is unique in combining gravity and centrifugal force to provide stable start-ups and shutdowns.

Operations

Sieves and bottoms are installed in each section and numbered to match door and box markings.

The pneumatic clamping system, which extends through the top of the wooden box, is used in Great Western’s wooden box type sifters to compress and seal the sieve stack. It helps to limit movement of the sieves during operation, which minimizes wear on the sieve frames, gasket seals and box interior. The pneumatic compression system also saves time and labor when removing and replacing the sieves within each section.

Great Western HS sifter bearings are engineered and manufactured to precise tolerances to assure smooth operation and provide maximum service life.

HS Sifters are assembled and test run at the factory. Once the Sifter is balanced and passes our quality check, the boxes and drive are match marked for correct re-assembly.
