Sifters

Separated by Excellence

Tru-Balance Box Sifter

Custom designed and built for screening any dry, free-flowing product ranging in size from 1/4″ to 400 mesh. It provides a gentle, gyratory sifting motion that is considered to provide the most accurate separations. The machine includes the dust-tight rotating sieve housing mounted in a sanitary tubular steel drive frame. Depending on the application, the sifter can be typically configured for up to six separations.

The gyratory sifting motion is created by the unique Great Western Tru-Balance drive mechanism that straddles the sifter’s center of gravity with counterweights and perfectly counterbalances the rotating sieve housing.

This system minimizes foundation requirements and even is available in a ceiling suspended arrangement that allows equipment to be located directly beneath it.

Many sieve construction options are available which include stainless steel or laminate lining of the standard hardwood sieve, easy to maintain and exchange lift out screen trays, and a full stainless-steel sieve. These options, plus many others, coupled with the flexibility in separations and the sifter’s large capacity, make the Box Type Tru-Balance sifter the most versatile sifter available in the processing industries.

Vertically nested series of frames conserves valuable plant floor space while offering maximum grading flexibility.

Multiple screen frames allow the sifting surface of each specific mesh to be proportioned for highly efficient grading of materials.

Smaller frames and screens provide greater ease for handling, changing and storage. The design prioritizes the prevention of sagging and formation of pockets that collect material.

The pneumatic sieve compression system provides uniform and constant sieve compression while the machine is in operation. This continuous compression reduces sieve frame and gasket wear, reducing the possibility of leakage.

High-capacity models available each using from 4 to 14 sieve frames in four different sieve sizes providing from 10 to 127 ft² of screening area. Stacked sieve frames allow the screen area to be matched and accurately allocated to each application.

  • Each machine individually custom engineered to match your requirements.
  • Gyratory motion provides gentle sifting action and proper material stratification that results in accurate separations.
  • Unique Great Western Tru-Balance drive achieves perfect balance and vibration-free performance. This balance is accomplished by straddling the sifter’s center of gravity with counterweights that offset the rotating sieve housing. There are no gear boxes to leak, and no sifter knuckles to wear out.
  • Adaptable to a wide range of products, capacities, number of separations and screen sizes.
  • Sanitary construction. Crevice free, dust tight, sieve compartment constructed of kiln dried maple and birch panels provides the maximum in fatigue strength and durability with a minimum of weight.
  • Large, hinged swing-open or lift-off shields provide liberal access for inspection or maintenance while ensuring plant personnel safety.
  • Floor supported or ceiling suspended arrangements.
  • Every unit is test run and balanced prior to shipment.
  • Easy installation.

  • Sieve box with standard exterior semi-gloss lacquer or with Hammertone enamel finish. Interior lined with stainless steel or laminate lining for sanitation and abrasion resistance.
  • Sieves secured with standard manual rack and pinion system or pneumatic sieve compression system.
  • The sifter can be opened, sieves removed completely, inspected or repaired, and reassembled in minutes with no special tools, minimizing downtime.
  • The sieve stack is inserted in the machine and nested against sieve guides. The door is secured, aligning the sieves and securing their horizontal position. The pneumatic sieve compression system lowers the internal press top frame.
  • The pneumatic sieve compression controls include an indicator lens to verify pressure is applied to the compression cylinders. No electrical connections required for the compression controls.
  • Crankshafts and counterweights are mounted to the rugged tubular drive frame with heavy-duty pillowblock bearings. The drive and motor are readily accessible on the sifter frame.
  • The standard speed is 263 rpm with a 2-5/8″ circle of gyration. For bulky products, a 3-1/2″ circle of gyration at 206 rpm is available.

Typical arrangements illustrated with optional inlet support stand and optional discharge floor stubs. Custom arrangements are also available. Dimensions shown in inches (millimeters) are indicative and subject to change without notice.

The Tru-Balance Box-Type Sifter is custom designed and built for screening any dry, free-flowing product ranging in size from 0.25 to 0.0025 inches. A gentle gyratory sifting action provides accurate separation and sizing of a product. It is usually floor mounted but can be attached to the ceiling.

The sifter’s dust-tight rotating housing is mounted in a sanitary tubular steel drive frame. The machine opens easily for inspection, cleaning, and maintenance. Sieve frames are nested one on top of the other in the rotating housing. The stack of sieves is held tightly together by a clamping system.

Each sieve frame holds a removable tray with sieve screening material. The screens are attached to the frames in one of two methods: mechanical (stapled) attachment or glued-on attachment. Screen cleaners unplug product from the screen openings. Gaskets seal the sieves and trays.

The sifter is operated by a motor(s) mounted on the frame, V-belts, and counter-balancing weights on eccentric shafts synchronized by a tie-bar. The clamping system ensures constant compression while the machine is in operation.

The Tru-Balance Box-Type Sifter has been assembled, balanced, and tested at the factory prior to shipping. The sifter may be cleaned through dry brushing and/or air cleaning.
